Energy Systems Data Engineer

Remote (DE), Munich, Hybrid, Remote (France), Remote (Netherlands)
Full-time
Permanent employee

About the role

The energy transition runs on batteries. As renewable energy reshapes the global power system, batteries are taking center stage. Making them reliable, safe and scalable are the defining challenges of the energy transition. At TWAICE, we build software that turns battery data into insights, so that we can help the world reach net zero faster.

As a Energy Systems Data Engineer at TWAICE, you combine hands-on experience with energy hardware systems — ideally Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) — with the analytical skills to turn raw operational data into meaningful insights. You know how these systems behave in the field, and you know how to work with the data they produce.

You are comfortable writing production-quality code to implement and deliver your analyses — not just scripts for your own use, but software that runs reliably in our product and is maintainable by the rest of your team.

Your daily business will involve

  • Analyse operational data from BESS components — battery modules, racks, inverters, and energy management systems — to identify patterns, anomalies, and failure signatures
  • Develop and refine KPIs and metrics that give fleet operators and asset managers actionable visibility into system performance and health
  • Work closely with product and engineering teams to translate your analytical findings into features that ship to customers
  • Implement your analyses as well-tested, production-ready code that integrates with our platform
  • Forge a strong collaboration between our data engineers and energy domain experts to validate analytical approaches against real-world operational circumstances
  • Participate in customer-facing discussions where domain credibility matters — helping scope integrations and understand fleet-specific operational contexts

Your profile

  • 2–5 years of professional experience, with hands-on exposure to energy hardware systems—ideally BESS—in an operational, engineering, or analytical role
  • Strong Python and SQL skills; able to turn exploratory insights into robust, production-ready, version-controlled software
  • Ability to derive meaningful KPIs from raw datasets, grounded in real-worlds operational understanding of energy systems and time-series data (e.g.SCADA, BEMS, inverter logs)
  • Solid software engineering fundamentals (testing, code reviews, maintainability) and experience collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • It’sa plus if you have experience with cloud data tools (AWS, Spark, Databricks) or have worked directly with battery storage projects at system level
Please consider that the requirements are not listed in order of relevance. We know that it is close to impossible to fulfill all requirements. If you feel that you can make a valuable contribution, we’d be delighted to receive your application regardless.
